Vinyl fencing is one of the most popular types of fences for homeowners in today’s market. But with so many companies to choose from and a wide variety of styles, it can be difficult to find the right company and style that best fits your needs. That’s why we compiled this list of frequently asked questions about vinyl fencing!
Why Is Vinyl Such a Popular Option?
Vinyl is a popular option for homeowners because it’s inexpensive, easy to maintain, and relatively low-maintenance. Vinyl fences are typically made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or high-density polyethylene (HDPE), which means they’re sturdy but lightweight.
Can You Install Vinyl Fencing Yourself?
We don’t recommend DIY installations. Vinyl fencing is a big job and requires experience to install properly. Installing a vinyl fence is an affordable option and it is important it is installed properly so that it lasts you for decades.
How Does Vinyl Differ From Other Types of Fences?
Vinyl varies from other types of fencing materials because it is relatively low-maintenance and inexpensive. It’s also the most lightweight type of fence.
How Long Will a Vinyl Fence Last?
It depends on the quality and upkeep of your fence. When properly maintained, a vinyl fence can last for decades — upwards of 30 years in many cases.
Can a Vinyl Fence Be Installed on a Sloped Yard?
Yes! A vinyl fence can be installed on a sloped yard. We recommend working with a professional installer because they have the expertise and experience to install properly, especially for tricky yards that involve sloping.
How Do I Maintain My New Vinyl Fence?
You can clean vinyl fencing with a garden hose or pressure washer to remove dirt and grime. You can also use soapy water for tougher stains but rinse thoroughly afterward. To do so, mix natural soap (such as Ivory) into dishwashing liquid in the ratio of two tablespoons per gallon of water; then apply it directly onto your fence using a soft scrub brush. Rinse the vinyl fence off with water and a sponge or cloth soaked in dishwashing liquid, then rinse it thoroughly afterward. Be sure to test a small part of your fence to ensure it doesn’t become damaged from harsh bristles and always use your pressure washer on the lightest setting and work your way up slowly so that you do not damage your fence.
Can Vinyl Fencing Withstand the Elements?
Vinyl fencing will withstand the elements, such as rain and snow. The vinyl material is a flexible polymer made up of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). This means it can be molded into different shapes to suit your needs while still maintaining its durability.
Can Vinyl Fencing Break Easily?
Your vinyl fence should not break under normal conditions, including harsh weather. The only time a vinyl fence has the potential to break is if it’s cut or punctured or if a severe amount of force is applied, such as being hit by a vehicle or a tree falling on it.
How Do I Find a Reputable Contractor?
Hiring a reputable contractor to install your vinyl fence is an important task as your fence will only be as strong as the installation. You should always ask for references and check reviews before making your decision.
